24 March 2026
Csaba Káel, CEO of Müpa Budapest, has received the Officer’s rank of the Order of the Star of Italy (Ufficiale dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia) from Dr Giuseppe Scognamiglio, Ambassador of the Italian Republic, in the ceremonial hall of the Italian Embassy in Budapest.
The Ambassador praised Káel’s outstanding contribution to fostering and developing Italian–Hungarian cultural relations, as well as his wide-ranging and lasting creative work, which spans many areas of culture – from the performing and visual arts through to fashion and film. He highlighted the value of Káel’s activities, which have helped bring the genre of opera to a broad audience, and his work as a director, with particular emphasis on his stagings of works by Monteverdi, Mascagni, Donizetti, Puccini and Verdi.
The Order of the Star of Italy is a prestigious state honour bestowed by the Italian Republic. It is awarded primarily to non-Italian citizens who have made an outstanding contribution to furthering Italy’s international relations. The Order, established in 2011, is the successor to the Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà Italiana, which was established in 1947.
