Featuring:

viola Gyula Boni
cimbalom Ernő Bangó
double bass Sándor Csík

Even today, most people associate the cimbalom with Gypsy music. Not without reason, given the reputation of Benedek Csík, for example, a virtuoso representative of the instrument who was already performing at Carnegie Hall when he was only 14. The second performer at the concert, Áron Horváth, is one of Hungary’s youngest cimbalom prodigies, having risen to nationwide fame at the age of 12. In addition to receiving awards and performing, Horváth has recently begun writing his own compositions with ever greater frequency. The show’s finale will see Miklós Lukács take the stage: one of the pre-eminent figures of the middle generation of cimbalom players, Lukács has time and again explored new dimensions of the instrument over the last few decades. Their concert is not only an encounter between three generations, but also a celebration of the instrument, as the versatility of the cimbalom takes centre stage, with its repertoire stretching from jazz to classical and Gypsy music.
