Produced by Müpa Budapest

Performers:

Final-year students of the Keleti István High School for Art

An old, carved sideboard is magically transformed into a royal palace: secret corridors and creaking doors appear before us, along with a shaggy, four-legged helper who gently guides the prince to the requisite happy ending. The graduating puppetry students of the István Keleti High School for Art retell the classic, humorous folk tale The Prince with Many Names with music, wit and exuberant playfulness. Will the princess finally smile? Will the curd strudel get baked? Will the old king’s beard grow long enough? The music, rooted in folk traditions, yet fresh in sound, will be performed live on guitar and recorder. Szívós Károly, who wrote the script, and Ágnes Török, the director, have been teaching at the Keleti School (KIMI) for decades, and this is one of a long line of their productions to reach the Müpa Budapest stage. Their new show is a family matinée in which the puppets lead the audience with wit and guile from one room of the palace to the next with the help of a series of enchanting songs.
