Cello Suite No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1008

J. S. Bach

Cello Suite No. 3 in C major, BWV 1009

Not only is each of Bach’s cello suites a delight for the ears, their role in music history cannot be ignored either. These highly significant compositions are milestones in the history of the cello literature, leading to its receiving more opportunities to function as a solo instrument. And we could hardly find artists more worthy of performing them than the ones joining us today. There is hardly enough space here to list the awards and achievements of the legendary cellist Miklós Perényi. István Várdai, for his part, is a luminary of the middle generation of cellists, while Gergely Devich represents a great hope for the future generation of musicians, one who honed his skills under the guidance of both Perényi and Várdai.
