Jazz Talent Exchange - Petra Várallyay Trio
11 January 2015, Sunday
4 pm - 5 pm
Banner Square
Produced by Müpa Budapest

Petra Várallyay's multi-faceted musical and performing talent was apparent from a very early age. She has played the violin since she was four and has won a string of musical and academic competitions since. After graduating from high school, instead of applying for a place on a classical violin course, she opted to allow herself the time and space to learn the freer, improvisational art of jazz that had always fascinated her. On the academic path, she continued her studies in jazz piano at the Béla Bartók High School of Music, where she established her trio, in which she plays piano, violin and sings as composer and performer in one. Her music is founded on instinct and on a harmonic soundscape alternating floating melodies and powerful rhythms that are sure to sweep the audience away. She is more than ably supported by two equally young and talented musicians in Zalán Berta and Balázs Szikora. Their progressive fusion jazz laden with impressionist influences unmistakably bear the hallmarks of all three artists.
The Petra Várallyay Trio performed in October 2014 as part of the CAFe Budapest Contemporary Arts Festival, where these talented young musicians revealed their innermost musical secrets in the huge tent erected alongside the Palace of Arts. The outstanding success of the performance added many more disciples to the young trio's growing band of followers.
