This progressive folk music heritage made its impact on the Etnofon Music Company which was founded in 1994 and its foundation created a novel and autonomous musical world. Its thematic albums – Outlaws of the City, Love Doors, Peacock Song – relate to creations by the folk music collecting composers Bartók and Kodály, just as they do to Kiss’s own compositional oeuvre and traditional Hungarian folklore relics. It uses authentic folk instruments alongside contemporary electronic devices from light music and also brings together archaic folk texts and poetry which reflect the emotional world of today. Folk music, world music, art music, jazz – the Etnofon Music Company is a fusion of all these utilising virtuosic musicians and frequently visual elements from theatre and film.
