guitar Bill Frisell
bass guitar Skúli Sverrisson

Bill Frisell, one of the most influential guitarists of the past three decades, needs no introduction. He's performed several concerts in Hungary, including at Müpa Budapest, where we also heard Icelandic composer Skúli Sverrisson as musical director and bass guitarist for Laurie Anderson in 2007. Like Frisell, Sverrisson is an extremely versatile musician, as shown by some of the names he's collaborated with: Ryuichi Sakamoto, Derek Bailey, Lou Reed, Jon Hassell, David Sylvian, Arto Lindsay, Allan Holdsworth, and Jóhann Jóhannson. The duo will play primarily songs Sverrisson wrote specifically for their joint album Strata, which was released in 2018. Sverrisson's playing is characterised by the ethereal, intimate and expansive character of his native Iceland, and is closely related to Frisell's musical outlook.
It took a long time for the two musicians to become personally acquainted, but it was later revealed that they had both regularly listened to one another's albums and awaited the chance to play together. Jim Jarmush, the outstanding film director who was in the studio during recording, has said that, even though the album represents the musicians' first musical meeting, the recording process seemed hypnotic and surreal, progressing wordlessly as if the musicians were siblings.
The duo takes the stage at Müpa Budapest as part of a short European tour, making the concert a special - perhaps once-in-a-lifetime - occasion that is sure to leave a deep impression on the audience.
