On the occasion of the 100. birthday of the world-famous Croatian conductor Lovro von Matačić (Sušak, 1899 – Zagreb, 1985), a representative exhibition was organized by the Lovro & Lilly Matačić Foundation on the life and work of the great artist. Besides Croatia, the exhibition has been shown in several European cities. Prof. Dr. Eva Sedak has obtained the exhibits from more than 250 preservers of the artist’s personal legacy, and has organized the exhibition according to two concepts. On the ...one hand, she accompanied the life of the musician, which was rich in both locations and events, and finely articulated Matačić’s relationship to these locations, which was also represented in his work. The third key topic of the exhibition is Matačić as a Wagner conductor. He conducted the entire Ring in Rome, Stuttgart, Munich and Palermo, and included the individual Wagner musical dramas in his repertoire all over the world more than fifty times. At his last appearance in Budapest, his program included the concert-like cross-section of the Götterdämmerung. Thus, there are enough reasons to include the Matačić exhibition in the program of the "Wagner in Budapest" Opera Festival at the Palace of Arts in 2009.
