Mahler’s career reached its climax during his tenure as both conductor and director of the Vienna Court Opera from 1897 to 1907. His work ushered in the Hofoper’s golden era and also marked the inception of modern opera performance. This exhibition, which was originally created for the Vienna State Opera’s observation of the 2010 Mahler year, explores this period and it can now be seen in Budapest thanks to the Austrian Cultural Forum. The exhibition reviews Mahler’s life and describes in detail... the events and major figures of Vienna during this period. The exhibition comprises mostly photographs from the Austrian National Library, the Austrian Theatre Museum and the Kunsthistoriches Museum, which are largely unknown in Hungary. Organiser: Budapest Festival Orchestra
