The Met's new production

This production matches a fantastic cast with Phelim McDermott's imaginative vision of having Mozart's hilarious comedy about a "test of fidelity” and the battle between the sexes be set in the 1950s on Coney Island, the crowded beach and amusement park frequented by entertainment-seeking New Yorkers on weekends. Currently one of North America's hottest sopranos, Amanda Majeski brings audiences to their feet with the radiant clarity of her ringing voice. Also armed with from Mozart and Rossini, Serena Malfi set off from Italy to successfully conquer the world's opera houses. American tenor Ben Bliss's fellow army officer is the Czech Adam Plachetka, who made his Met début in 2015 as Masetto in Don Giovanni and has also returned there to sing Leporello. In this masterpiece replete with imaginative complications and subtitled The School for Lovers, Don Alfonso contends that all women are fickle - and the British baritone Christopher Maltman is the perfect choice to play the old philosopher. Bringing to life the character of Despina, perhaps the most entertaining in the entire work, is one of Broadway's favourite singer-actresses, Kelli O'Hara. David Robertson, who will conduct the performance, has enjoyed a noteworthy career in Europe and is currently directing one symphony orchestra in the United States and another in Australia.
