2 pm - 5 pm

Early Music Festival

Mendelssohn

St. Paul, op. 36

The star guest at the Early Music Festival to be held for the first time at the Palace of Arts is the Choir and Orchestra of Collegium Vocale Gent, led by Philippe Herreweghe. The world-renowned conductor and early music specialist performs Bach's Mass in B minor with these two ensembles at the festival's opening concert. This is followed by an international co-production, as the singers of Collegium Vocale, supplemented with members of the outstanding Purcell Choir directed by György Vashegyi, prepare for the closing concert on 25 January over a rehearsal process of several days together with the Orfeo Orchestra under the leadership of Herreweghe.
On 24 January, the Palace of Arts audience has the opportunity, by means of rehearsals open to the public, to gain a behind-the-scenes glimpse of this noted early music performer and choir conductor at work, during which he will rehearse Mendelssohn's oratorio St. Paul with a group of outstanding artists from the Hungarian early music scene.

The rehearsal will be conducted in English.
