A joint production by the Palace of Arts and the Budapest Music Centre The primary objective of the creators and sponsors of the Hungarian New Music Forum 2009 Composers’ Competition is to encourage and support the writing of new Hungarian works of music. Additionally, it is desirable for an enduring collaboration to be created between young composers and major orchestra and chamber ensembles in the popularisation of new music. The competition was open to composers who declared themselves Hungarian below the age of forty. Entrants could write works for orchestral and chamber categories. The selection of winning works occurs in two rounds – a semi-final and final. In October 2008, the juries of both categories in the semi-finals selected four works each to compete in the final, without knowing their authors. At the final gala concert, which will be broadcast live by MR3 Bartók Radio, the jury will make its final decision once the works have all been performed. Then the prizes will be awarded. Prizes: I.
