For decades Miklós Spányi has believed that the music of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is "worthy of a mass,” if not more. As one of the most acknowledged performers and scholars of C.P.E. Bach's work, he has recorded his entire oeuvre for keyboard instruments over a series of some 40 albums, and it was partly this which prompted him to form his ensemble of outstanding musicians. "Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach stands firm alongside Johann Sebastian, what's more with both feet,” he says. This evening Spányi guides us through a musical world rich in effects that are sometimes extreme, sometimes strongly romantic, placing the creations of father and son side by side.
A stage conversation under the title Prelude will precede the concert from 6.30 pm, giving ticket holders the opportunity to better familiarise themselves with the musicians and the works they will perform.
