Dmitri Shostakovich was among the most important creative artists in 20th-century Russian music, one whose life and works are full of contradictions. Even while finding himself forced to withdraw several of his compositions, he was repeatedly presented with the highest state awards. The conductor Thomas Sanderling was a close personal friend and professional associate of his and led the premieres of several of his important works. Each of the selections on the programme for this concert by the MÁV Symphony Orchestra is made special by the fact that none have ever been performed live in Hungary. As the soloist, we will get to welcome the world-famous cellist Gustav Rivinius, who teaches at the Saarbrücken Music Academy and the Maastricht Conservatory.
