Viktor Tóth – alto-saxophone, Mátyás Szandai – double bass, Hamid Drake – drums Viktor Tóth, the young and toweringly gifted alto-saxophonist in his personal conversations likes to talk of Hamid Drake as the Buddha of jazz drummers. This American instrumental artist plays with an astounding relaxation and elegance but with breathtaking suggestiveness, yet is also capable of impulsiveness and energy. In 2007, they released their influential joint recording, with double bass player Mátyás Szandai... making them into a trio, Climbing With Mountains on the BMC Records label. In the Viktor Tóth Tercet’s music, we find the artistic traditions of jazz, alongside a homage paid to the tradition represented by Coltrane, Charlie Parker and Sonny Rollins, as well as the impressions of a meditative exploration by this sensitive intuitive artist. As a result, this formation both endeavours to find deeper truths and also for the continuous expression of aesthetic values and beauty. Despite their austere line-up, they are able to produce a rich world of sound, bringing Hungarian progressive jazz to new levels.t
