Romano Drom: Antal Kovács – guitar, vocals, József Balogh – guitar, vocals, Zsigmond Rafael – can, mouth bass, dance, Antal Máté Kovács – can, derbuka, percussion, Róbert Farkas – violin, accordion Musafir: Chugge Khan – castanet, Jew’s harp, Jamil Khan – vocals, harmonium, Gewar Khan – drums, Sadiq Khan, Sadar Khan – vocals, sarangi, Hameed Khan – tabla Featuring: Rekha – dancer, Banay Singh Kumar – fakir Romano Drom have been going their own way since 1998 when Antal Kovács jr and his fat...her left the Ando Drom group. Since then, Romano Drom have made four CDs – most recently Po Cheri this year – and is now one of the most sought after Gypsy bands in Europe. Their power, rawness and authenticity is rooted in the Tsollar Gypsy culture but this is no restriction: their recordings and concerts convincingly demonstrate their openness to other styles and instruments be they Latin or Balkan melodies and rhythms. Musafir, led by Hameed Khan, point back to the distant past of Gypsy music in both space and time – to the ancient sacred and profane traditions of the wandering musicians of the Thar Desert that stretches between Rajastan in North-West India and Pakistan. We know that at festivals and fares, snake charmers, dancers and musicians would entertain their supreme leaders, be they Muslim, Hindu or Sufi. Musafi has been playing since 1995 and is perhaps the best known Indian Gypsy band in the world and they have performed in Hungary on several occasions. They can be also known to people who don’t know them by names since Musafir have appeared on records by such world music stars as Natacha Atlas, Erik Marchand, Thierry Robin and Lo’Jo.
