This Jazz Versions evening led by two of Hungary's greatest piano phenomena promises to be one of the absolute highlights of the Liszt bicentennial celebrations. The influence of Ferenc Liszt's virtuosity as a composer and pianist is increasingly recognised in the jazz community – Tamás Ittzés's studies of the connections between Liszt and ragtime are just one example. Béla Szakcsi Lakatos and Kálmán Oláh have undertaken to adapt the themes of Liszt works, or their short movements, to create mus...ic with its own character infused with the language of jazz and rich in improvisation. The two jazz musicians will be joined by Benjámin Lakatos, a young classical pianist and student of the Liszt Academy. Lakatos will play extracts of the Liszt works in their original form to provide the foundation for their reinterpretation in jazz. Szakcsi and Oláh will be supported in performing their new arrangements by double bassist Krisztián Lakatos Pecek and the Horizont Woodwind Quintet comprising Zoltán Gyöngyössy, Béla Horváth, Csaba Klenyán, Gábor Bizják and Attila Jankó. There will also be a place for improvisations on two pianos, as Szakcsi and Oláh are granted the complete freedom of the Festival Theatre stage. Presented by: Palace of Arts
