Zsolt Kaltenecker – piano, keyboards, Viktor Hárs – double bass, Gergő Borlai – drums, Gábor Juhász - guitar The final event of the 2007 Monday Night Jazz series sees pianist and composer Zsolt Kaltenecker in centre stage and he begins with acoustic piano. With his devilish technique, stunning sense for harmony and refined melodic world, he will play solo improvisations for the first half of the concert, and for a few numbers, a DJ and beatbox will make the sonority even more interesting. In ...the second half, the Kaltenecker Trio augmented by Viktor Hárs on bass will perform its own compositions, demonstrating both the possibilities of the traditional jazz trio as well as exploring possibilities offered by new electronic sonorities. There will be no sacrifice of spontaneity, since the electronics will all be played live. Now thirty seven years old, Kaltenecker began studying classical music and this led him to an interest in improvisation and composition while still young. In 1996 he graduated from the jazz-piano faculty of the Budapest Academy of Music and in the autumn, travelled to New York to take private lessons with Jaki Byard. His 1999 album Songs from the 20th Century won him the “Jazz Record of the Year” award. Since 2000, he has also been publishing records in Japan: so far he has sold several thousand copies of his six CDs. Kaltenecker is always seeking new paths and his music and that of his trio carries stylistic hallmarks of jazz, rock and underground. Over the years, we have heard Kaltenecker as a creative partner of László Studniczky, Péter Papesch, József Barcza Horváth, András Dés and András Mohay. On this occasion, the concert will be rounded off with a kind of union of the musical dominions they have explored.
