András Párniczky – guitar, Kristóf Bacsó – soprano and alto saxophone, Péter Nagy – double bass, István Baló – drums Matt Darriau – saxophone, flute, clarinet Guitarist-composer András Párniczky and his band Nigun released their CD Bale Kulturnik in the final weeks of 2006. This album condenses their definable themes and beliefs into musical thoughts. “Bale Kulturnik” is a Yiddish expression alluding to people who make a conscious decision to return, display and communicate their cultural ro...ots. András Párniczky is just such a person: with his instrument and compositions, he is reviving the rich musical heritage of the East European Jewry and in particular, that of Chasidim, placing it into the context of the quickly changing genre of jazz which, let’s not forget, is only a century old itself. In this concert in the Monday Night Jazz series, Párniczky is assisted in his endeavours by some top notch musical colleagues, long term Nigun members Kristóf Bacsó and István Baló, as well as the young Péter Nagy. This concert can be regarded as a CD premiere but some older compositions will also be played. The guest soloist is coming from New York: Matt Darriau became famous with The Klezmatics (who won a Grammy award in 2007) but his musical interests go well beyond the world of Klezmer. In recent years, as composer and band leader, he has created productions that daringly fuse Jewish musical heritage with other stylistic influences, to create a unique sound.
