Featuring: Gábor Juhász Trio (Gábor Juhász – guitar, Péter Papesch – bass guitar, Gergő Borlai – drums) Guest soloists: Mihály Borbély – soprano and tenor saxophone, taragot; Attila László – guitar Gábor Juhász is one of the leading and most versatile of current Hungarian guitarists: beyond mainstream, he was a key figure in the development of Hungarian ethno-jazz and in his fusion work, has successfully forged his own style. His instrumental solos are notable for their sensitivity, artistic m...erit and richness of style, irrespective of genre. His compositions are also unique in employing the freshest currents of modern jazz, alongside musical dialects gathered from the musical traditions of Europe and beyond. Important highlights of his career to date include collaborations with Károly Binder’s Pangea and Szabolcs Szőke’s Tin-Tin Quartet in the 1990s. At that time, he also formed his own Off Course band with some contemporaries and together they made a record with Erik Truffaz. Other great partners have included László Dés, Elemér Balázs, Zoltán Lantos and Kornél Horváth. In 2002, Gábor Juhász won the acknowledgement of the critics of Hungarian Gramofon magazine, the Hungarian Jazz Prize. His first solo CD with world famous trumpeter Palle Mikkelborg created some enduring music, and his later music for Erika Marozsán was a big hit with both critics and audiences. In 2007, he presented his own trio, showcasing his remarkably sensitive guitar playing in tandem with a virtuosic rhythm section comprising Péter Papesch and Gergő Borlai. The trio recently released their record Fények (Lights) but they say they are now overflowing with fresh musical ideas and compositions. Some of these will be heard in the Festival Theatre.
