The Free Style Chamber Orchestra was formed in 2004 to provide an answer and has done so to towering standards. The secret is to bring together some superbly trained musicians from different backgrounds; a jazz combo spiced up with a hurdy-gurdy encounters a string orchestra augmented with woodwind; they play compositions written for this line up and produce some rarely heard sound colours. Instead of the density of big band sound, they exploit the shaded use of each section, and their world of harmony and melody make their numbers exciting and accessible. And the solo work most definitely is something that should not be missed. Another important aspect of their concerts is their wry musical humour. They released their first album, Pop Music in 2006 and it largely featured compositions by János Nagy the eMeRTon and Artisjus Prize winning pianist as well as a composition each by drummer Gergő Borlai and guitarist Péter Lukács. At this concert, they are planning to present music from their two albums as well as preview material for their third, due out in spring.
