The Palace of Arts has quickly established itself as a favourite concert venue and nothing proves this more graphically than the procession of world class musicians who appear on the stage of the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall. After her hugely successful French production last year, one of the most celebrated jazz divas, Dee Dee Bridgewater is coming to the Palace again to give a concert as part of her tour linked to her latest recording. Born in Memphis, Dee Dee has lived in Europe for many... years and it is important for her to draw inspiration from her own existential situation and her own deeply experienced motifs, and then share the results in stunningly expressive performances with an audience. She is currently exploring her Afro-American roots and in the most authentic manner: her companions, who she calls her “new Mali family” are also consummate performers of so called Mandingo music. They are led by Cheikh Tidiane Seck who following her tour of Mali, has been introducing Dee Dee to the secrets of West African music. The rhythms of the American South and West Africa compliment each other in Dee Dee Bridgewater’s productions, uncovering mutual roots and the universal mystery of music.
