In the second half of the nineties, when world wide electronic dance music was the rage and DJs were becoming great stars, gifted (rock) musicians in Hungary began to play instrumental dance music live. Of the most influential bands of this time, perhaps colorStar built itself the most stable career. Founded in 1996, they created the most unique musical world. Besides dance music influences, their initial sound was also shaped by post-rock which rejected classic pop-rock schemes, and 60s and 70s... space rock. This led to their first record in 1998 HeavenIceTrip!, to which they gave the subtitle Xplode Your TV ’n’ Make Your Own Movie. From record to record, they refined their style. Their 2002 record VIA La Musica made determined strides towards electronic party music and easy-listening nu-jazz ideas, but the song writing qualities of their 2004 album Komfort signified a big leap forward. While they didn’t write pop songs in the traditional sense, they did produce numbers, which are more striking and traditional than their earlier work. “Thinking in terms of production” has always played an important role in colorStar’s success from their very beginnings; their concerts, to which they invite some unique musical guests, have always been accompanied by film shows. They won’t be breaking habits at the Palace of Arts. We will see a performance that can be interpreted as a multi-art event: we’ll be seeing the group, which recently summed up its career in a spectacular DVD, taking new steps on a path which presumably will be just as brave as anything the guys have done in the past.
