Sándor Benkó – clarinet, Béla Szalóky – trumpet, Iván Nagy – trombone, vocals, Jenő Nagy – banjo, Vilmos Halmos – piano, vocals, Zsolt Kelemen – double bass, Gábor Kovacsevics – drums The swing festival organised annually by the Palace of Arts adopted the name New Orleans in 2006, following the tragedy that beset the city with the Hurricane Catrina disaster. New Orleans is the home of traditional jazz, ragtime and of course, of swing. Each year, participants from Hungary and the region pay homa...ge to the city’s cultural values, primarily its immortal music. This year, there will be again several guest performers from the American continent whose mother tongue is the authentic colours and tastes of traditional swing. In focus this year is the 45th anniversary of the foundation of the Molnár Dixieland Band. A unique aspect to the Szeged group’s concert is that their guest will be cimbalom player Kálmán Balogh. In recent years, this traditional gypsy instrument has become strikingly present in Hungarian instrumental jazz. On the second day, the Benkó Dixieland Band will take to the stage with Hungarian American vibraphone player Tommy Vig. The festival will be wound up by the young musicians of the Hungarian Swing Company, who besides the evergreens of the swing era will also be playing some sparkling but unfairly neglected gems. Their guests in this enterprise will be Béla Szalóky and Ted Rosenthal.
