Our second stop on the road to Symphonia visits Woodwindia for an hour. This is the home of another group of defining members of the symphony orchestra, the woodwind instruments, namely the dainty oboe, the colourful clarinet and the humorous bassoon. The children in attendance will be introduced to the construction of the instruments, their use and history, as well as their relationships with one another (they usually get along very well). And, of course, their music, right down to the basics, ...including the nature of sound, how it comes about when two reeds vibrate as air is blown between them, why it is beautiful (or not, for that matter) and how sounds are turned into music. This final aspect will be the responsibility of the woodwind octet of the Zugló Philharmonia and the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, among others. Ages: 6–12 years Presented by: Palace of Arts
