The journey to the land of Symphonia is an eventful one: The road takes its first stop here in String City, before heading on to Woodwindia and Brassville. At this concert, we will meet that most important family in the symphony orchestra, the string section, comprising with the violin – “the beautiful goddess”, as Yehudi Menuhin once described the instrument – and her sisters, the viola, cello and double bass. The children in attendance will be introduced to the construction of the instruments,... their use and history, as well as their relationship with one another (they usually get along very well). And, of course, their music, right down to the basics, including the nature of sound, how it comes about from the meeting of string and bow, why it is beautiful (or not, for that matter) and how sounds are turned into music. Ages: 6–12 years
