The Oratorio Society of New York was formed in 1873 and is today the town’s second oldest cultural organisation. At one time, a member of the management board of the Society was Andrew Carnegie who built a hall, the fam...ous Carnegie Hall, for support choral music and particularly the Oratorio Society. The choir has always felt it an important duty to perform, besides music of earlier years, works by living composers. In January 2006, Kent Tritle became the eleventh musical director in the choir’s 133 year history. He is renowned as the organist of the New York Philharmonic and was a student of the Juilliard School where he studied choir conducting and organ. The Argentine born David Rosenmeyer completed his musical studies in Israel and has won numerous international prizes. The central focus of his musical activities is playing contemporary works.
