With some music, the end goal is a charming conversation under the pretext of beauty, the well-intentioned desire to entertain and the display of bravura technique. Works conceived in terms of these goals are important drops in the ocean that is for me the almost boundless realm of music. However, there is a narrower circle of masterpieces which fascinates me, even if I have studied them for months or many years and performed them many times – sharing with my audience the uplifting, cathartic ex...perience. Encouraged by the success of our orchestral evening together in February 2012 (where we performed concertos by Tchaikovsky), my friend Vilmos Szabadi and I have decided to take the stage together once again. On this occasion, we’d like to give our audience the pleasure of listening to music by Beethoven. Although the three-movement Violin Concerto in D major, composed in 1806, met with only modest success when premièred at the Theater an der Wien, and interest in the work over the ensuing four decades was only lukewarm, the composition was revived in 1844 in a performance by the 12-year-old Joseph Joachim under the baton of Felix Mendelssohn. Its popularity remained unbroken thereafter. It was Beethoven himself who premièred his Piano Concerto in C minor three years after he first wrote it in 1800, but the score, which observers stated only contained minimal notations at the time, was not finalised and published until 1804. The work was born in Dublin under the influence of the beauty of the local countryside with each movement bursting into a thousand colours. Beethoven revelled in performing it and composed three cadences for the overture alone. On what promises to be a wonderful evening, our musical partners are once again the Danubia Orchestra Óbuda and Domonkos Héja. We will be delighted to welcome you all too.
