Gábor Takács-Nagy became famous as the leader of the string quartet that bore his name. After winning international competitions, he emigrated with the quartet, but then decided to part company. He is currently a teacher at the Music Academy of Geneva, holds master classes across the globe and since 2002 has conducted. Since 2005 he has worked with the MAV Symphony Orchestra and from this season, is its principal guest conductor. Two early works by Bartók frame this carefully assembled programm...e. Two Portraits for violin and orchestra, with its “ideal portrait” and “grotesque portrait” pairing is the first expression of a musical idea that accompanied Bartók’s entire working life. This bi-polar world manifests itself in the male and female pair of Prince Bluebeard’s Castle, between whom there can never, in Bartók’s view, be harmony. Between the two Bartók works, we will hear pieces by Tchaikovsky, which are written for perhaps the most romantic sounding instrument, the cello. The soloist will be the supreme Miklós Perényi who has enchanted audiences time and again with the inspiration of his playing. Hungarian born Gyula Stuller lives in Switzerland and plays in chamber music formations with the world stars. Bernadett Wiedemann has been a member of the Hungarian State Opera since she graduated in 1993. Her repertoire includes dramatic Verdi mezzo roles and Wagnerian heroic alto parts, and she is also active as concert singer. Péter Fried has sung the part of Bluebeard in many world cities. In May 2008, he performed it with Pierre Boulez at the Barbican Centre in London to great critical acclaim.
