Howard Williams remains its resident guest conductor in its new guise as the Pannon Philharmonic – Pécs. His wide repert...oire contains many contemporary works; he has programmed a piece this evening by James MacMillan who was born in 1959. MacMillan composed this work for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra which premiered it at the London Royal Albert Hall in 1992. Written for percussion and orchestra, the soloist will be the director of the Amadinda Percussion Group, Zoltán Rácz. Before the concerto, we have a rare chance to hear the overture to Hector Berlioz’s 1826 unfinished opera, Judges of the Secret Court. In the second half, the orchestra performs Sergei Rachmaninov’s Symphony No. 3 which was premiered by Leopold Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1936.
