The Ring Without Words
'Transcriptions are new works, similarly to literary translations, in that a pianist becomes a co-creator in, for example, the performance of a Beethoven sonata.' (Zoltán Kocsis) In the first half of the concert, Schubert's songs with piano accompaniment will be performed according to the orchestral arrangements of Brahms, Webern, Berlioz and Reger. After the interval, Lorin Maazal's (1930-2014) symphonic work The Ring Without Words will be performed, which distils the most important melodies from the world famous conductor and composer Richard Wagner's The Ring musical drama cycle.
The musical career of the German lyric tenor, Christoph Prégardien, born in 1956, is closely tied to the works of Mozart and Schuber. In parallel to his singing career, he has also worked as a professor at the Cologne University of Music since 2004. Dennis Russell Davies was born in 1944 in the United States of America, and has been the director of the Brno Philharmonic since 2018. He is also a fan of jazz and delights in playing alongside the American pianist Keith Jarrett and Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek.
