Conductor: Iván Fischer The farewell concert of György Pauk, who is finishing his career as an active performer, fits well into the Festival Orchestra’s five year old highly popular series of “secret concerts”. Pauk, who has lived in London since 1961, entered the Academy of Music at the age of twelve where he was the youngest student of Ede Zathureczky, Leó Weiner and Zoltán Kodály. He made his international reputation with victory in the Paganini and Long-Thibeaud Competitions. He made his ...American debut in Chicago at the invitation of Georg Solti, while Antal Doráti invited him to perform in Washington and New York. Pauk has played Berg and Bartók under Pierre Boulez and Simon Rattle, and premiered Penderecki’s Violin Concerto in Japan with the composer conducting. He also recorded Michael Tippett’s concerto with Colin Davis which was named Gramophone magazine’s “Record of the Year”. György Pauk plays on a “Massart” Stradivarius violin and during his career, has been a welcomed guest all over the world and in all the great recording studios. Today he will bid farewell to the audience with Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 2. The rest of the programme will be a surprise for him and the audience.
