Possibly the greatest figure in 21st-century big band jazz, Maria Schneider is a seven-time Grammy Award-winning musician/arranger. Two of these prestigious accolades honoured her monumental 2020 album Data Lords, material she planned to present at what would have been her Hungarian debut in 2022 had COVID not intervened. But better late than never: joined by the outstanding musicians of the Oslo Jazz Ensemble, this innovator of progressive big band and avant-garde big band jazz will now take the stage in Budapest for the first time in 2025 with the music from Data Lords, an album dealing with the darkness of a data-starved digital world. A bird aficionado who can boast being David Bowie’s final collaborator as well, Schneider is also able to steer us towards silence – this is a chance to witness one of the greats of modern jazz live at work.
