Providing a musical overview of the history of various instruments from the tilinkó to the tárogató, this concert features a group of outstandingly talented, virtuosic musicians performing on a variety of instruments, including the shepherd’s pipe, kaval, tilinkó, clarinet and tárogató. The modern version of the latter – like the pedal cimbalom – is a creation of the instrument maker Vencel József Schunda. The order of musical pieces performed will be determined by the chronology of the instrume...nts’ appearance. Just as for the cimbalom evening, our goal on this occasion is to demonstrate the widely varying roles these instruments play in different musical genres. Not only will we hear folk music “from the pure source,” but also early music, contemporary classical and jazz. Accompanying instruments will include the hurdy-gurdy from the Southern Great Plain, the Moldavian cobza (koboz), and the tambura family of instruments primarily played by Southern Slavic people in Hungary. The evening also provides a good opportunity for the public to get to know famous and acclaimed Hungarian wind instrument players such as Mihály Dresch, Mihály Borbély, Gy. László Kiss and Attila Csávás, alongside two talented young musicians from the folk music faculty of the Academy of Music. Presented by: Palace of Arts
