György Szabados – piano, Antal Babits – contrabass clarinet, bass clarinet, Csaba Klenyán – clarinet, Ádám Jávorka – viola György Szabados and the New Dimension Workshop first performed together at the Miskolc International Opera Festival in 2004. The creator of New Dimension, Antal Babits had earlier worked as a young clarinettist with the former Kassák Contemporary Music Workshop led by Szabados, which launched many improvisatory musicians. Szabados, whose music has been characterised from the inception of his career with a cultic balance between freedom and structure, endeavours to develop abilities of improvisation which tend to be absent from official music education and which represent the highest human music values. He also likes to encourage classical musicians to improvise as well and would like to make it a true feature of Hungarian musical life. So this musical project is no accident. This new record is also an homage to the 1956 Hungarian revolution. The members of New Dimension Workshop are truly committed thinking musicians whose primary objective is not entertainment. They are serious musicians in the timeless sense of the word. They believe that “living music is blessed between earth and sky”. The material on this recording has been determined by Szabados’ and Babits’ directional principals, through the elevation of the soul and the inner content of concrete musical lines. After their hugely successful London, Moscow and Cluj debut concerts, this unique production can now be heard in Budapest.
