In Coriolan, Beethoven chose a historical figure faced by the eternal problem of all heroes, namely the conflict between his historical destiny and his private life, for the title of his overture. Shakespeare too wrote a drama around legendary Roman leader Coriolanus of the 5th century BC, while Beethoven composed his overture to compliment a play by Austrian playwright Collin. The music is more effective in telling the story than anything expressed in words. In the exuberance of youth, Mozart ...composed five violin concertos in quick succession in 1775. Soloist Gyula Stuller will endeavour to capture the vibrancy, playfulness and, on occasion, tender admiration of his Violin Concerto in G major. Currently residing in Switzerland, the performer has won several international competitions and has given solos and chamber recitals in almost every major European city. He has also directed the artist training faculty of the Tibor Varga Academy in Sion since 2002. Ferenc Liszt's greatest liturgical composition, Missa solemnis (Esztergom Mass) was first performed at the consecration of the Esztergom Basilica on 31 August 1856. Liszt was commissioned to create the mass by János Szcitovszky, a bishop of Pécs at the time. The piece became associated with Esztergom when Szcitovszky was ordained archbishop of the former royal seat to the north of Budapest. The composer, who instructed the musicians himself, donate the proceeds of the dress rehearsal held in the National Museum to the construction of Saint Stephen's Basilica in Budapest. The premier of Liszt's Esztergom Mass was also the first major musical event to take place in Hungary. The work will be performed by the 300-strong choir of the Istvános Musical Workshop conducted by Gergely Ménesi, permanent guest conductor of the Zugló Philharmonic. Head of the Jubilee Orchestra and the Győr University Orchestra, Ménesi also frequently performs with the Košice Philharmonic Orchestra. Presented by the Zugló Philharmonic Orchestra
