After 25 years the Metropolitan is preparing to present the entire Ring cycle in the 2011/2012 season. Director Lepage’s production will be the eighth complete Ring since the first Tetralogy in 1889; James Levine will conduct. Two famous Wagnerian stars Deborah Voigt and Eva-Maria Westbroek will sing their roles for the first time at the Met. Stephanie Blythe succeeded Marilyn Horne in Verdi’s Falstaff in 1996 and has enjoyed great success in a variety of different roles at the Met since then. S...he sang Fricka three years ago and received an ovation normally only accorded to a lead role. Further names from a star-studded list: Bryn Terfel, who has sang the whole Tetralogy at Covent Garden and Hans-Peter König, who has rich Bayreuth experience. The stage will be presented by the Rheingold team: Carl Fillion designs the set, Franҫois St-Aubin the costumes and Étienne Boucher the lighting. The transmissions in Budapest have been made possible by Erste Bank, a strategic partner of the Palace of Arts. Bloomberg is the global corporate sponsor of The Met: Live in HD.
