This year, we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the passing away of the legendary Kossuth Prize winning violinist and celebrated teacher Vilmos Tátrai. On this occasion, we invite music lovers to this, the first concert of a new series, which will also be the Budapest première of the Vilmos Tátrai Chamber Orchestra. The Danubius String Quartet, formed twenty five years go, had Vilmos Tátrai as its artistic director for ten years. The Vilmos Tátrai Chamber Orchestra brings his legacy forwards a...nd is inspired by the great respect in which he is still held. The Tátrai family have also endorsed the use of his name. Tátrai felt that the most ideal thing would be for a well grooved string quartet to found a chamber orchestra, since the shared concept and precise ensemble playing would result in some very high level interpretations. Following this concept, the chamber orchestra was founded, which has as its concertmaster the internationally famous, Liszt Prize winning violinist András Ágoston. The other great pride of the ensemble is the presence of György Konrád, who for decades was the superb violist of the Tátrai String Quartet. The Vilmos Tátrai Chamber Orchestra can perhaps fittingly be described as the concertmasters’ chamber orchestra because a number of other Hungarian concertmasters play in its ranks. At today’s concert, two great composers meet: Antonio Vivaldi and Philip Glass: two different worlds and yet remarkably similar. The Vilmos Tátrai Chamber Orchestra makes no secret that their collective objective is to play “traditional” classical music alongside representatives of new trends, and to make their audiences enjoy both. All who attend can expect some joyous music making this evening.
