Natalie Dessay takes to the stage at the Met for the first time in the role of the tragic courtesan, débuting in an innovative production in contemporary dress which “delivers style, sparkle and stirring drama” to the audience – according to the Los Angeles Times. The production was originally premièred at the Salzburg Festival. Its extravagant stage design and costumes are the work of Wolfgang Gussmann, with lighting designed by Hans Toelstede and choreography by Athol Farmer.
