A true Verdi soprano and an authentic Verdi mezzo sing in the Trovatore performance broadcast live by the Metropolitan. The New York Times has praised Sondra Radvanovsky’s “wielding her gleaming, silvery voice to intensely expressive effect,” while The Times hailed her as “a true Verdian, with a big, juicy, vibrato-rich sound”. Dolora Zajick has achieved her greatest success in the hardest Verdi roles in major opera houses in the United States, in La Scala, the Wiener Staatsoper, Covent Garden a...nd other illustrious stages in Europe. The female leads find worthy partners in two stars well known to Hungarian audiences, Marcelo Álvarez and Dmitri Hvorostovsky, the legendary baritone from Siberia, who has even been chosen for the list of 50 most handsome men in the world. Expectations from the performance will be fuelled by a review in The Globe and Mail, written after a concert given by Radvanosky and Hvorostovsky in Toronto on April 1, 2010: “their singing was phenomenal, vocally and dramatically. The palpable symbiosis between the two singers was further enhanced by the bracing competitive edge of their healthy and justified egos”.
