Conductor: Robert Houlihan Featuring György Lakatos – bassoon Dohnányi: Symphonic Minutes, op. 36 Zoltán Kovács: Bassoon Concerto – world premiere Dohnányi: Symphony no. 1, op. 9 The Szombathely Orchestra continues with its emphasis on performing neglected compositions of the symphonic repertoire. Dohnanyi’s Symphony Minutes was written in 1933 but perhaps does not belong to this category. However, the composer’s Symphony no. 1, written when he was twenty three, most certainly does. The s...oloist this evening is one of Hungary’s leading bassoonists, György Lakatos who will be playing Zoltán Kovács’s Bassoon Concerto no. 2 written for this soloist, for the ensemble and for this occasion. It employs subtly balanced orchestral forces.
