Following the hugely successful concert hall staging of Parsifal in 2006, and then the first two works of the Ring in 2007 in fully staged versions, this year presents all four operas of the Ring at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall – and perhaps uniquely, they will be heard also on four consecutive days. Adam Fischer made his Bayreuth Festival debut with the Ring in 2001 and was named “Conductor of the Year” by the German periodical Opernwelt. He returned to Bayreuth for three consecutive seasons as the musical director of the perhaps greatest cycle in music, and in 2006 and 2007 conducted Parsifal on the “Green Hill”. In 2007 he received the highly prestigious Eichala chalice which the city of Bayreuth donates to artists who have enjoyed extended periods of success at the Festival. Hartmut Schörghofer learned set design in his native city of Salzburg at the Mozarteum University and he has become internationally renowned as a set designer. His career as a director and his collaboration with Adam Fischer began at the Eisenstadt International Haydn Festival. These days, he is primarily occupied with opera direction, and his joint role as a set designer allows him to approach operas from an unusual and fruitful angle. He enjoyed great success with both critics and audiences at last year's “Wagner in Budapest” Opera Festival. Judit Németh is a soloist at the Hungarian State Opera House. She has sung at La Scala Milan and since 2000, she has performed at the Bayreuth Festival. At the 2006 Budapest Wagner Festival, she performed Kundry in Parsifal to critical acclaim and in 2007, gave her account of Fricka in Rheingold and Die Walküre. This year, she will reprise these roles and additionally will be one of the Norns in Götterdämmerung. Christian Franz played Parsifal in the first Budapest Wagner Festival, in the second sang Loge and Siegmund also to great acclaim and in 2008 we shall hear him also in Siegfried. He made his debut as Max in Der Freischütz at the age of twenty two and was soon renowned as a formidable singer of Wagner. He was invited by Giuseppe Sinopoli to participate in performances of Die Walküre in Dresden and Carnegie Hall. Daniel Barenboim also asked him to participate in a number of productions in Berlin. He sings the tenor roles from the Ring all over the world, and featured in productions of Siegfried and Götterdämmerung in Bayreuth. Another guest returning to the Festival is Hartmut Welker who has sung Alberich for three straight years at Bayreuth. He has sung Wagner roles at La Scala Milan: Telramund in Lohengrin, Klingsor in Parsifal and Alberich in Siegfried. This year he will appear in this latter role in three operas at the “Wagner in Budapest” Opera Festival. Dutch bass Jan-Hendrik Rootering made his debut at the Bavarian State Opera in 1982 where since then he has sung nearly all the great bass roles. His Wagner repertoire, besides Fasolt, includes Pogner, Gurnemanz, Hans Sachs, Daland and Count Hermann.
