Conductor: Patrick Summers Production: Jürgen Flimm Faturing: Karita Mattila,Ildikó Komlósi,Kim Begley, Juha Uusitalo, Joseph Kaiser Finnish singer Karita Mattila first sang the title role of the 1905 Strauss opera in 2004 in the Metropolitan and, due to the huge success, was immediately offered a Katja Kabanova contract. The New York Times wrote on Ms Mattila’s performance that “Karita Mattila no doubt deserves her own chapter in the history of the Metropolitan Opera of the turn of the Mi...llennium”. Now she is preparing to once again mesmerise her audience in a Salome-costume with her unforgettable Dance of the Seven Veils. The role of Jochanaan is taken by a fellow countryman of hers, the baritone Juha Uusitalo who, despite the fact that he is regularly invited to leading opera houses of the world, is still a member of the Helsinki Opera. It was there that he first sang in Parsifal and the Ring Cycle and he also made his debut as Jochanaan in Salome in Helsinki. Herod’s role will be played by Hungarian singer Ildikó Komlósi who studied in London and Milan after completing the Hungarian Academy of Music in Budapest. In 1986 she won the International Pavarotti Singing Competition and then, one by one, took international opera stages. She debuted in the MET in 1998, and an old dream of hers came true once she could start dealing with Salome’s Herod.
