“Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's two most popular and expansive works, the Mass in C minor (K. 42) and the Requiem (K. 626) are rarely heard as part of a single performance, even though they are connected by countless historical and stylistic threads – primarily the influence of the baroque giants Handel and Bach on Mozart – within the composer's oeuvre. Both works, in various ways and for a variety of reasons, remained incomplete. As a result, their performance in full is not possible without the cha...nges made by modern or period composers. The outstanding English musicologist Richard Maunder – one of the top experts in Mozart's composition style and methods – has created reconstructions of both works, which I consider to be the must successful of all modern editions of classical works. Both reconstructions were performed for the first time in Hungary by the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Orchestra as separate concerts, but, as far as we know, the two masterpieces have never been performed together and on period instruments in Hungary before today's concert.” György Vashegyi Presented by: Orfeo Music Foundation
