The first is Madama Butterfly, originally premiered in 1904 and now featuring in the title role the young Armenian soprano Karine Babajanyan whose international career was launched just a few years ago in Germany. She has been asked to reprise the role of Cho Cho San at opera houses in Saarbrücken, Wiesbaden, Hannover and Frankfurt where she received tremendous critical acclaim. In 2001, the Opernwelt journal named her “Singer of the Year” largely because of her exceptional Puccini performances. Giuseppe Giacomini made his debut just as Pinkerton in Vercelli in 1966 and has since been a constant guest in the leading opera houses of Europe and America with his interpretations of heroic roles by Puccini, Verdi, Bellini and Donizetti. This season, he will sing Cavaradossi at London’s Covent Garden and the Oslo National Opera in addition to Samson (Saint-Saëns) in Zurich. Roberto Servile made his breakthrough playing Marcello alongside Luciano Pavarotti in a production of La Boheme. He is renowned for his Puccini roles, and this young Italian baritone has been invited to sing at the Salzburg Festival, the Berlin Deutsche Oper and the Buenos Aires Teatro Colón. Pier Giorgio Morandi began his career in the orchestra of La Scala Milan where he was the first oboist for ten years and he also worked as an assistant to Riccardo Muti and Giuseppe Patané. As a guest artist, he has conducted Madama Butterfly several times at the Hungarian State Opera House where Bernadett Wiedemann has been a member since 1993. As a guest performer, she has sung all over Europe and also in Japan and Brazil.
