In 1974, Annie Fischer said “Ilona Prunyi is among the outstanding representatives of Hungarian music, her talents as a virtuoso are quite remarkable,” while Zoltán Kocsis was of a similar opinion inn 1979 when he added, “Her superlative musical skills, as well as the honest and infectious simplicity of her play have made every one of her concerts I have heard an unforgettable experience.” In the years since her first concert in 1974, Prunyi has amassed a repertoire of more than 700 pieces of mu...sic of all genres, from Viennese classics to contemporary compositions. Emil Petrovics wrote a piano concerto for her that has seen many successful performances through the years. As someone who knows Ernő Dohnányi's piano pieces inside out, she has played a major role in spreading the popularity of the Hungarian composer's work. Her domestic and international concert performances are complemented by 48 CDs published since 1988, of which the majority are world-première solo recordings of music by composers such as Godowsky, Bennett, Heller, Dohnányi, Emma Kodály, Bartók, Tchaikovsky and Korngold. Prunyi has also been involved in a host of broadcasts for Hungarian Radio and Television, featuring in commemorative films to celebrate Dohnányi, Goldmark and Bartók. She has worked with conductors such as Barsaj Rudolf, Zoltán Kocsis, Yuri Simonov, Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro, Arnold Katz, Mark Gorenstein, Nikolay Alexeyev, Miklós Erdélyi, Ervin Lukács, Zsolt Hamar and László Kovács. Her partners have included the Tátra Quartet, Jenő Jandó, Eszter Perényi, Miklós Perényi, the New Budapest String Quartet, László Polgár, Júlia Hamari, Dénes Gulyás and Ingrid Kertesi. In recent years, Prunyi has also appeared at chamber recitals with award-winning young artists, so it is no coincidence that she has chosen László Fenyő to star alongside her in tonight's concert.
