He was just nine (!) when he won the Nyíregyháza National Piano Competition and followed this up with further numerous competition victories. His greatest success was outright victory in the 1996 Budapest Franz Liszt International Piano Competition. In recent years, he has devoured the greatest works of music literature with an insatiable appetite. His repertoire contains over thirty concertos as well as Chopin’s compositions for solo piano, and he also performs a great many of the works of Franz Liszt. For his solo recital, he has selected works which have most charmed audiences of numerous countries with his perfect technique, personality and artistry. He has also brought along several works which are rarely heard in the concert hall. These include one of Liszt’s homage to the genius of Mozart as well as his waltz paraphrase from Gounod’s opera. We shall also hear the famous Toccata and Fugue that many doubt is actually the work of Bach but performed in a new transcription by Gergely Bogányi himself.
