Dezső Ránki graduated from the Budapest Academy of Music in 1973 where he studied with Pál Kadosa and Ferenc Rados. While still an eighteen year old student, he won the Zwickau International Schumann Competition and since then has given concerts all over the world. He regularly appears in most the nations of Europe and has also concertized in North and South America. Every two to three years, he visits Japan. He has played with the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, the Amsterdam Conc...ertgebouw Orchestra, the Paris Orchestre National, the Toyko NHK Orchestra, and with such distinguished conductors as Sir Georg Solti, Sándor Végh, Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta. Since 1985, he has given piano duet and two piano concerts with his wife Edit Klukon: most recently they played in Washington, Berlin, Paris, Tokyo and New York. Dezső Ránki was awarded the Liszt Prize in 1973, the Kossuth Prize in 1978, the Budapest Metropolitan Artist’s Prize in 1982, the Artist of Merit Award in 1984, the Bartók–Pásztory Prize in 1988, the Supreme Artist Award in 1990 and in 2005, the Prima Primissima. In 2006 he was awarded the Hungarian Republic’s Order of Merit’s Middle Cross with Star and in 2008, was again given the Kossuth Prize.
