Villon–Faludy: The Dance Macabre Ballad Featuring: Marcell Nagy – prose, London Contemporary Dance Company Over the past two years, Xavér Varnus – the charismatic organist with the common touch – has been involved in a number of projects at the Palace of Arts. He performed among others at the grand inaugural concert for the new organ in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, and also made the first CD recording on it which was released by Sony-BMG. Remarkably, it became a double platinum bes...t seller in just a couple of months, which is unique throughout the world. Born in 1910 and passing away in September 2006, poet György Faludy translated the ballads of François Villon in the 1930s. One of the most beautiful is the Dance Macabre Ballad which was so popular that a survey in the 1990s found that seven out of ten Hungarians knew its refrain by heart. In 1998, Xavér Varnus organised a concert in Budapest at which Faludy himself recited this verse. This was the last time he and his old friend Faludy were to meet. This time, the legendary ballad will be recited by Marcell Nagy who is famous for his lead role in the film adaptation of Nobel Prize winning author Imre Kertész’s novel Fateless. During the verses, we shall hear the greatest works in the organ repertoire, together with an expressive choreography and performance by the famous London Contemporary Dance Company.
