The world famous guest at this organ concert is the Wiener Sängerknaben, which was founded by Emperor Maximilian first in 1498, when he moved his court from Innsburck to Vienna. Over the past five centuries, the ensemble has enjoyed relationships with such luminaries as the Haydn brothers, Mozart, Salieri, Schubert and Bruckner. Until 1918, the Vienna Boys’ Choir was exclusively in the service of the Emperor but since then it has performed across the globe. Comprising of about a hundred boys bet...ween the ages of ten and fourteen, they make up four ensembles which give three hundred concerts a year to a combined audience of over half a million people. They still continue a five hundred year old tradition, when augmented with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Chorus, they sing in the Imperial Chapel at mass each Sunday. The organist who has invited the most famous Austrian ensemble to his concert, himself lives in Vienna. He is István Mátyás and he studied at the Vienna Music Academy organ and piano, among others with Martin Haselböck. He was born in Zalaegerszeg in Hungary in 1980, and as a soloist and chamber musician achieved some impressive results at competitions (Nyíregyháza, Gorizia, Békéstarhos, Szeged, Vienna). His greatest success to date was first prize and four special prizes at the 2005 Kaliningrad Organ Competition. For several years, he worked as repetiteur for Italian tenor Antonio Carangelo’s master classes, and since 2004, has been the piano accompanist of the Vienna Sine Nomine Choir. Since 2008 he has been the rehearsal pianist at the Graz Music Academy. Although still a young man, he has given over nine hundred concerts. In 2007, he released a CD featuring all the organ works of Austrian composer Hans Gál.
